Jay-Z assists as daughter Blue Ivy Carter gets starstruck during sweet encounter with LeBron James - USA TODAY

Blue Ivy Carter wore an $1800 Gucci dress to the NBA All Star game. You can get this look for less. Elizabeth Keatinge (@elizkeatinge) has more.

Even Blue Ivy Carter gets starstruck.

The fashionable 8-year-old may have superstars Beyoncé and Jay-Z as parents, but it was basketball star LeBron James who had her adorably lost for words.

Blue Ivy enjoyed some quality father-daughter time with Jay-Z courtside at Sunday's match-up between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles Clippers.

Following the Lakers' 112-103 win over their in-town rivals, James personally greeted Jay-Z and Blue Ivy, who initially hid behind her dad as the all-star player approached.

It turns out she had a simple request: an autographed basketball. But Blue Ivy was too shy to muster up the words to ask at first.

"If you want it, you gotta tell him," Jay-Z can be heard telling his daughter during the sweet encounter. "You almost got it out. Yeah, just do it."

James responded: "You want a ball from me?… By the time you get out of school on Monday, you'll have it."

Blue, who was born on Jan. 7, 2012, is the first child of Beyoncé and husband Jay-Z. The couple also share twins Rumi and Sir, who are 2.

Blue Ivy is proving to be somewhat of a sports savant.

Last month, the pint size star attended the Super Bowl alongside her parents in Miami Gardens, Florida. Ahead of the game, she tossed a ball on the field as Jay- Z applauded.

Her parents caused quite the stir after sitting through the Super Bowl national anthem. Jay Z later admitted that it wasn't a political statement, but that the couple got caught up in "artist mode" over the performance.

'I just enjoy art, period': York city artist paints Beyoncé, Kobe Bryant in breakout showcase - York Daily Record

Posted: 09 Mar 2020 12:59 PM PDT

Artist Shamar Mosley's paintings feature famous black celebrities, and are on display at the Parliament Arts Organization Gallery York Daily Record

There isn't any furniture in Shamar Mosley's living room.

Where there could be a couch and maybe a small end table, there are blank canvases, easels, and acrylic paint. Mosley is a maintenance worker for the School District of the City of York by day, but by night, he spends time in his DIY studio space that was once a living room.

It's hard to tell by his incredibly detailed and vibrantly colored pieces of work, but Mosley has only been painting for a little over a year.

"[Painting] really wasn't something I was trying to pursue [professionally]," Mosley said.

The 37-year-old has been drawing for most of his life, but took up painting on a whim last February after his sister-in-law went to a sip-and-paint event and brought back her creations.

To his and everyone else's surprise, painting was an untapped talent that had finally surfaced. The York High grad was born and raised in the city, so it wasn't long before his painting hobby caught the attention of friends, family and the downtown art scene.

Mosley's introductory pieces are predominantly portraits of black celebrities. Using canvases and a few wooden panels, his paintings allow you to lock eyes with trend setters, record breakers, and lyrical gurus of the past and present.

Economic Development Specialist for the City of York and freelance PR consultant Sharee McFadden had approached the Parliament Arts Organization about showcasing local black artists for Black History Month.

"We want to show the community that not only do we have black creatives, but we as a city are invested in the success of all of our artists," McFadden said.

When they agreed, she immediately thought of Mosley and his recently discovered painting talent. Mosley didn't find out about the opportunity until two weeks before the showcase opening, but he was on board.

He went from two pieces to 18 and put in over 100 hours of labor for the Feb. 7 event at Parliament Arts Organization on King Street. Soon, his living room was filled with the likes of Beyoncé, Notorious B.I.G., Kobe Bryant, Erykah Badu, Nipsey Hussle, Jay-Z, Meek Mill and more, waiting for their debut.

Mosley's work introduced gallery visitors to urban culture and black figures he listened to or watched as he was growing up. They even got a taste of some of his abstract pieces, such as his depiction of global warming.

While Mosley's pieces in the gallery did have price tags, he's waiting to get prints of his work before he sells them.

The showcase opening was one of the most well-attended exhibits the Parliament had in months, according to McFadden. And, the local restaurants and bars were able to get some of the foot traffic from the event as well.

"We're excited that he's here, and we're excited [about] all of the other opportunities that have come from starting his career as an artist," McFadden said.

Mosley looks forward to learning other skills and creating art on whatever surface he can get his hands on. His teenage daughter also draws, so they've been learning new things together.

Mosley thinks other aspiring artists should simply get their work out there. Using his own experience as an example, he says taking that first step is key.

"I thought I had to wait for the right time, but any time can be the right time."

Since the showcase in February, Mosley has booked at least three other events in Philadelphia, New York and California. By next year, he wants to be a full-time artist and hopes to be featured in the Art Basel in Miami one day, which is where "leading galleries from North America, Latin America, Europe, and Asia show significant work from masters of Modern and contemporary art, as well as the new generation of emerging stars," according to its website.

Recently, Mosley launched his own website, MosArt, where people can see his portfolio, buy pieces and contact him about other opportunities. He's creating visibility for his craft which embodies a nostalgic piece of posthumous advice from Notorious B.I.G.

Beyoncé's Mom Used to Make All Her Destiny's Child Costumes By Hand - Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Posted: 29 Feb 2020 05:48 PM PST

Once upon a time, Beyoncé was an up and coming singer, trying to make her way in the world. Along with her Destiny's Child bandmates, Beyoncé traveled all over the country, performing for audiences and working on her craft.

Over time, Beyoncé began to gain recognition as a major up-and-coming talent and these days, the singer is a superstar and one of the biggest and most powerful celebrities in the world.

Still, she remembers her roots and has talked about the days when clothing designers didn't have any desire to work with her or her bandmates.

How did Beyoncé get started in music?

Beyoncé Knowles was born in Houston, Texas, in 1981. As a very young child, Beyoncé began showing her talent for performing and enrolled in dance classes before she was even 10 years old.

The young girl impressed all of her teachers with her dancing ability as well as her impressive singing voice. She was able to hit extraordinary high notes and express emotion well beyond her years when she sang. Beyoncé continued developing her talents all throughout her childhood, singing in the local church choir and forming a girl group with her childhood friend Kelly Rowland.

As the girl group continued to practice and grow, Beyoncé's father, Mathew Knowles, decided to manage their careers and try to bring them to the next level in the industry.

Throughout the early nineties, the group, now named Destiny's Child, worked as openers for a wide variety of other established acts and auditioned for record companies to try and get their big break. That big break finally came in 1996, when they signed to a record label and began to officially record music.

Tina Knowles sewed costumes for Destiny's Child

While Mathew Knowles was hard at work booking gigs and shuttling the girls to and from various performances, Beyoncé's mother was doing what she could to help the group as well.

As Beyoncé revealed in a later interview, many designers didn't have an interest in creating stage costumes for Destiny's Child, so Tina Knowles stepped in.

"Starting out in Destiny's Child, high-end labels didn't really want to dress four black country curvy girls, and we couldn't afford designer dresses and couture," Beyoncé stated. "My mother was rejected from every showroom in New York. But like my grandmother, she used her talent and her creativity to give her children their dreams. My mother and my uncle, God rest his soul, made all of our first costumes, individually sewing hundreds of crystals and pearls, putting so much passion and love into every small detail."

Beyoncé is now a fashion icon

Tina Knowles' help really paid off, and ultimately, record executives and audiences alike took notice of Destiny's Child, and Beyoncé in particular. As Beyoncé rose to worldwide fame, many different fashion brands and top designers clamored to create clothes for her to wear. These days, Beyoncé is considered to be one of the most fashionable women in the world and a pop culture icon.

Beyoncé has continued to pursue her interest in fashion as well as her love of music and entertainment. She formed a fashion line with her mother in 2005 called House of Deréon, producing sportswear and denim pieces, as well as handbags and accessories.

In 2016, Beyoncé launched her very own clothing line, called Ivy Park. The line has proven to be incredibly popular and the pieces have sold out during each launch. All in all, Beyoncé is a force to be reckoned with in multiple industries, from clothing to singing.
